Kevin Marr Tattoo Profile ImageIn this week’s Artist Spotlight we caught up with Kevin Marr Horikema of Godspeed Tattoo in San Mateo, California. Kevin has been tattooing since the late 90’s mastering the style Japanese tattoos.

You have been tattooing since 1999, way before tattoos became socially acceptable; what is your thoughts on the change in perception on tattoos and tattoos as art?

I feel like there’s been a huge shift. Now that it’s acceptable, we have more serious clientele, and lots of amazing tattooers. My clients are getting full sleeves and full back pieces as their first tattoo. Empire State Tattoo Expo 2015 Coverage

Empire State Tattoo Expo 2015 Coverage

The Empire State Tattoo Expo was GREAT; as to be expected. First, we would like to thank the event organizers for the hospitality and allowing us to cover such an awesome event. As soon as we hit the convention floor we were met with the sound of buzzing tattoo machines and the smell of green soap. Anyone who has ever attended a convention can tell you those two things go together like warm apple pie and ice cream.

On Sunday some lucky tattoo collector won a tattoo collaboration with Paul Booth and Nikko Hurtado – what a lucky guy!
